Re: Been a while, 1717 gearing?

Yeah, man, Looong time. I never did get my dual-motor truck put together that I was going on about back when. Guess I should pull that out again. All I need to do is drill four holes and assemble the *censored* thing.

Been a while, 1717 gearing?

Haven't had my Flux out in a couple years, I think it's time to haul it out again. Problem is, I was having some heat issues when I last had it out. Any gearing reccomendations for 6S on 5th scale BowTies?

Re: HPI 4 Bevel Gear Differential Conversion Set

Yeah, GPM discontinued them last year, and the remaining inventory disappeared fast. I contacted the manufacturer and got a minimum order price. Right now I'm trying to talk a particular store into making an order. If they don't go for it, I may end up throwing my tax return at the problem and sell ...

Re: vorza cd diff

Greywolf: Go ahead and use the Vorza plastic cup. You may wear it out after a while, but it's better than having to constantly replace the 10x16x5mm that the stock Savage cup uses. If you decide to use an alloy cup in spite of that, get a ceramic 10x16x5mm. It will pay for itself in time saved on re...

Re: 2016 savage flux?

Unfortunately, that is NOT the XL Flux that they've unveiled a few weeks ago. The new one is based on the Octane chassis, has a different radio box, mounts the ESC on top of the transmission, and has a few other design features that look like they may be a step back. I'll have to get a better look a...

Keep in mind that lowering can have more of an effect on the center of gravity and rollovers than just shedding weight. Get your truck DOWN, and you'll corner much better.

Re: FLM tranny forward lcg tvp's alza cd xo-1 1717

You're going to have the same issue with making your own center diff: the distance between the outdrives of a diff is shorter than on the Savage trans. Either way, you'll need a front dogbone that is longer than what comes with the TVPs. It's possible Dejan or someone else might be able to make a cu...

Re: Savage XL Electric Conversion

I wouldn't say "never", but the suspension isn't at all suited to slow climbing. It'll scramble really well, but it doesn't have the articulation for slow crawling, really. The way the suspension geometry is, it needs a bit of momentum to get it over the bigger stuff. If you want to make your Savage...

Re: want to run 47 tooth plastic spur gear
I have been running the same plastic 47t spur for the past couple of years. In fact I have never run the steel 44t gear. I wanted a cheap weak point in the drive train but has proved to be very durable. For stock size tires I do run a 21t pinion, for a bigger tires(original t...

Depends on what you mean by "worth it". If you're tight on cash and don't go about attempting to turn your truck into a pretzel on a regular basis, they're probably not worth the money. If, on the other hand, you like beating the living crap out of your truck, then they are absolutely worth it! If y...

Re: GPM or Hot Bodies

Skip the HPI aluminum Big Bores and get the stock nylon BBs instead. The aluminum don't work any better than the nylon Big Bores, and they are notorious for leaking around the shafts. I've used both, and the nylon versions are just plain better. I have bent a few shafts, but that stopped when I star...

Re: Yet Another Diff thread - Pinion gears

I second Jon's recommendation. The ALZA CD is probably the best Flux upgrade for the money. It solves so many problems at once: it takes a lot of stress off the driveline, lowers center of gravity, lessens rollovers, improves turn-in and cornering, and eliminates about a quarter of a pound of metal ...

They're okay for nitro, but a Flux, even on 4S, will tear them up before long.

Re: What part's are these??

The top ones are pretty definitely intended for a Baja 5B/5T/5SC.

The bottom ones are for a buggy or truggy, rather than a Savage, unless they have an M5 nut that fits down inside.

Re: Savage flux hp... Heat issue

Nope, your slipper is loose. It's slipping and building up a ton of heat in the metal spur. Eventually, the pad will glaze and burn, or just come apart. The manual will tell you to tighten it all the way, then back off 1/4 turn. Don't back it off. Wrench the slipper nut down TIGHT and leave it tight...

Re: What's needed for cd?

I also always suggest getting the GPM hardened steel internal gears for the diffs. They're almost $30 per diff, but they WILL NOT break. Add them to the proven fact that a CD is easier on the drivetrain, and you get a pretty bulletproof drivet...
when you guys add the cd to the flux...............does it help quiet it down as far as the gear noise goes? just wondering
It actually is a lot quieter, but nothing is going to make the Flux completely silent. Re: Kershaw designs

Ah, his stuff is for the Flux. I think you could modify the right TVP and motor plate to accept a nitro engine without decreasing the strength if you used the version with the buggy roof, though. I gather some stuff in his shop is off of the shop page while he is on vacation. I assume that includes ...

Re: New Nylon A Arms on the market

I never did get the time to do those torture tests, but I am absolutely willing to attest that these are both stronger and less flexy than RPM. I used black Rit dye and got a very nice midnight blue color out of it. Aince then, they've stood up to some incredible cartwheels and some bad side landing...

Trust me, though, skip the Kershaw and get an ALZA 1/5 conversion. It's far stronger than Kershaw's half-@$$ed TVPs.

Hmm. He may be out of stock at the moment... worth the wait if he is bringing them back, though.
