hub nut issues

Post by MonoSavageX » Fri Mar 06, 2015 11:45 pm

So I was at my local track yesterday with my electric short course truck and I hit a concrete wall and broke the rear hub carrier. When I went to replace things the hub nut that holds the tire on backed out till the end of the hub and now it just spins it won't tighten or loosen. It just spins any suggestions on how to remove it with trashing the tire? I can post pics if need be.

If your not supposed to break them, why do they make new parts?

Ok so here is the hub nut it doesn't tighten or loosen it just spins, "VERY" freely I might add. lol like there is a good ball bearing in the nut.

When I make the attempt to loosen the nut I do hold down the hub from the back using a rod running through the hub where the dog bone sits. Aswell as hold down the tire. None the less the hub nut still spins freely.

Im kinda stumped here cause I would rather not trash the tire in this scenario. I do have a dremmel tool I was contemplating cutting the nut off however the bit I have for cutting is too wide and would definitely cut into the rim of the tire.

Have you tried grabbing it with a pair of pliers and pulling while turning?

Ok so I tried both the needle nose vise grips and drilling it neither worked. I eventually set it on 2 tires and used a metal punch and basically pushed the hub off the nut. This worked surprisingly well, it looks like maybe 4 rows of threads on the hub where gone so once the nut got to that point it just dropped in and spun.

never the less I got it off with no damage to the tire really. So thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated  :D .
