Looking good 5avag3. Explain what you have going on in the front end there? And also, what's going on in the rear, are the bars attached to the shock tower?

Thanks guys for your kind words...
OK Shin.....let me drop some science man..
There is only 2 lengths of nylon rods and I am very hesitant to put any holes into them as mentioned on earlier researches by Pluh that nylon specification and characteristics will be weaker than delrin, only when the rod has been tampered with.
By using springs, crimped on each end, tight enough to hold each bar (not damage) I am able to attach the bars together without screws or glue. The springs also allow for maximum play for the bars independently, in a more cheaper and effective way.
The bars are curved at the back where it touches the rear body pillars, that are on 4 coils of stock black springs for dampening, this spirals back around to protect the rear shocks but allows for maximum upward movement of the rear suspensions, this explains the curves, as the spiral shape is more effective in the dampening function, but also gives it the feminine sex appeal , then it is firmly friction fitted to the rear brackets where I may use R clips, split pins or just screws, but it doesn't matter because there will be minimum torsional stress in there.

The front section will have a third length of nylon bar across the front approximately 3mm above the radio box, not butt jointed but glued with high strength epoxy under the main bars. This eliminated screws, stopper for too much sway of the bar and will hold the front panel which will protect the front towers and also hold some head lights from the stock bull bars.

I hope you can picture the description, I guess what I tried to find is a balance on my cage as, too stiff of a cage will transfer the impact stress on the truck itself, and too soft will just buckle on hard impact.

It isn't finished yet and it is out there for some feedback, it can be changed if you guys can see some improvements...
This is exclusive of the IMUN80 roll cage in the making fellas, so feel privileged........only viewed on SC. :D

Your design is pretty good. However, due to the design of the rear portion, I expect inverted landings to apply more torque (Twisting force) to the rear mounts than I am comfortable with. The angle of the picture may be deceiving though. Can you take a picture directly from the side?

I've been working on a design for the past 2 days. At this stage, it will cover the engine, and the bracing system I have decided upon should eliminate most lateral and downward deflection, and allow me to use smaller round stock to reduce the overall mass. The mounting system will distribute the stress throughout several components of the chassis, hopefully eliminating any mount breakage issues. The cage will be made from Nylon round stock and flat bar, and the mounts from 6061-T6 aluminum. Class 12.9 alloy steel screws will hold it together.

I'd like to begin construction within the next few weeks, but this will probably end up being a winter project, completed in November.

Nice find Shinobid, all of those trucks have the same basic design and have extended TVP's so they have way more room for the mounts, I just tried to improve on that design for the stock X platform and added my own creativity...I will be posting more pics as I progress bro...
HPISRC... Aluminum would be great bud, because I use to do a little TIG welding back in the days..It's a little trickier than arc or MIG but I don't have the machine at my disposals. I'm looking forward to seeing your design.

As most of the impact will be coming from the front, the rear mounts will take more of the force and you are right....luckily my rear mounts have much better mounting arrangements than the front ones.
thanks for the heads up.

5avag3, that looks interesting. I don't want you to call me a copy cat when you see mine, I was planning on spring loading the body post towers as well. A while back I had my body post towers spring loaded for my rubicon body, but then I went with the header tank and the rear body post tower was no longer able to be spring loaded. At least not the way I had mine set up. I used zip ties wrapped around the top of the body post and the bottom of the shock tower, creating a slight amount of tension on the springs. It worked really well. I don't run the header tank anymore though, I went mid tank...Anyway, I'm not sure what the point of the cross member springs are though. You probably would have been fine just using the same material for the cross members. It definitely looks different though!

Shinobid, the beauty of this forum is that it is very informative about the trucks that we have, and we take those information that others have shared in here and use the effective mods into ours. I'm not the first person to put springs under the body posts, I seen it somewhere before and thought it was a great idea. I got my spring ideas from zoomans suspended canopy, the nylon rods from Integras, my cage shape is influenced by tamiya wild ones and some 1:1 rock crawlers, so you are not a copy cat.
I put mine out there to give some back to this forum as I have learned a lot of tricks here. I wish there were more diverse ideas so that our trucks will become stronger. The spring crossbars is what I've used so that the two main bars can move independently from each other on uneven impacts yet still return to its original form. If it's too weak then I will put nylon bars across, this is an idea yet to be tested but putting screw holes into the nylon rods will be my last option.
I hope hope ever reads this thread that they can take some of my ideas then improve on that and take it to the next level. Imun80 will not be the best cage to come out of this and I will change it to suit with improvements.

Hey 5avag3, does it have enough strength to stand on the cage?  I looking foward to seeing some SERIOUS bashing. I guess the real test is to take it off a jump and intentionally have it land on the top.

 Very nice rear views Mrsnuggs.....the megane is a classy car, but not my taste bro, I do like the curvy bits tho.

Hey electric, I have not stood on top of it as that would not prove anything. I'm saying standing on your cage proves you have strength to carry weight at even pressure downward, like plaster (or Americans call it gyprock) is used on houses as it is good material for straight even pressure downward but you could bash a hole through it side ways with a lot less pressure. Some mass produced aluminum roll cages has a promotional photo of it with a whole person standing on it and one photo with a front wheel of a truck on top of it, but one sharp angle landing and it's totaled, because the material bends but not go back to it's original shape, it also does not absorb the sharp impacts but rather, lets shockwave travel to other parts of the truck where it will break the weakest point. The HPI stock cage is great value for its purpose but you will find it wears very quickly due to road rash. I know that you can put a file to nylon and it slides over it, but if HPI made it out of nylon, that precise product would probably cost three times as much. Big companies will want their products to last and protect some things, but not for good and everything. Although, I'm sure they could if they want to.

On the final video I will demonstrate what punishments my cage is immune to.

Been planning my promotional video...... 8) I need a good camera man though with some visual arts skills.....Decent bashing area.....has to be a sunny day....

I have found the sound track I will be using though...Keep an open mind you hillbillies..I love my country music..guns n roses, metallica, live, eagles and lots of others rock music but you have to move with the times....although with techno, you have to be on some synthetic retarding substance to listen to that.

This track is lyrically ill and motivational too.
