Here's the final cage. I'm not happy with the lights so the top ones are coming off as soon as I finish the new ones. I reinforced the top abit to help protect the shock ends.
I don't have a video of it in action yet. Soon

why does the end of the video tell the viewer to go f themselves ??? 8O

and this bashing was not hard at all as you can see the zip ties ontop of the cage did not break

id like to see the truck thrown full force into the ground upside down not just thrown lightly in the air like in the video

are you going to be making and selling tose cages?? what would one cost?

What happened to your finger?

Did you take a hammer to the cage or what? 8O

Verry impessive though, but i thought you said you weren't going to produce the cage if my memory serves me correctly.

How much does the cage wheigh?

Great Effort, A++

BTW Zooman, nice design. Is that revo shocks you used to support the cage? Very interesting design you got going there!

zooman's cage is very original, and seems very functional, dont like that white color though.
5avag3's cage look's more traditional to what we would see, although it has its own original curve's
these ar the only 2 done so far? cant wait to see the rest of the cages everyone is building, I would hate to be the judge of this contest.

Thanks guys
I thought there would be more out there ?
5AVAG3 I like the look. My friend had and old CJ7 V8 38's blah blah blah that looked just like your savage. Brings back the memories man...
In my big town I can't find any dye.
I'm going to try to dye the plastic black. I'm not sure if it will take.
But I try a small peice to see what it does.

The shocks are from my Jato..

Just heading out for some bashing.

well im trying to get my hands on solid edge cad program so i can draw the sketches for my roll cage

i will then be sending the sketches to a company called protomold who i will then get to make the plastic injection molds plus later on the actual peaces

i will be going for a cage that can fit under a body as i think most ppl would like to be able to use the body on their trucks

it will require similar cutting of the body as the original x hoop

tho i have not been posting much yet my project is in the works and allot of time has gone into learning about cad drawing and plastic injection molding

the good thing about plastic injection molding is that i can get the piece made of any plastic even delrin at almost the same price as regular plastic

the tricky part will be to be able to design the thing so it will be produceable with two piece design mold as well being extremely strong and good looking so anyone running it will be proud of saying this is my truck

lol i have bitten so hard down on this stick i cant let it go until i have designed the best and most sellable roll cage anyone has seen until now

only problem is that the mold making costs little under 2000 dollars but it comes with a few sample peaces witch can be sold right away if i am happy with them to cover some of the cost

im thinking if getting the peaces made of delrin right away would be the way to go??

im hoping to be able to finish the drawings in a month or so and then maybe another month to get the molds built for me

there might also be some delay as i need to be able to get spendable money for the project as i cant be sure the cages will sell

i guess ill start a new thread on it as soon as i have my first drawings so i can get your opinion on design and make proper adjustments to it accordingly

does anyone know where i can get a 3d cad drawings of a savage so i could cut my drawing time down a bit??

as i dont have the money to make two kind of cages i figured more people would like the type witch allows them to use the body ontop

but who knows maybe i will be able to make the cage so it will accept add on ultra strength crash bars for those who like the raw look of no body full rollcage look and bash harder than anyone else

im thinking of including in the cage wide points that can be drilled (as the two piece mold cant allow hollow points) and in those places a delrin rod can be glued in (that will make the use of body impossible tho)

so i will be trying to make a cage that should suit most peoples need and be indestructible without putting any extra strain on the truck itself or any modification needed at all

just fastened by the body mounts and the middle rollbar hoop of the savage x

owners of older trucks will need to buy the x rollbar tho as the roll cage is being designed with the extra strength of a middle support (the x rollbar to be exact)

well it will all be clear soon enough how this will develop and how open to mods and add ons i can make this

Ok..I'll try to answer all questions and comments as they were projected to me...so let the truth be known...

Pluh and Maxx are correct about the finger....it's a work related incident...just put in there to show, I'm not silver spoon fed...It was included just to see who was switched on..

Bashing not hard enough? I bashed the 5hit out of that savage for at least 4 hours that day, the longest I've done in a long time, you see near the end, the shadow of the camera man it's coming to dusk, we were hungry. No zip ties broken? I use electrician grade cable ties and is wrapped over the rubber sleeves...breaking them would not prove anything. I wouldn't be able to throw it near as hard as I bashed it that day, it was just a simple demonstration.

Dorky name..? Well, how can I deny that? I stopped being cool when I stopped smoking cigarettes and got back into RCs, I'm sitting in front of my computer, talking to other men around the world in a forum about little remote controlled monster trucks, if I was trying to be cool I'd be in a nightclub, not that there's anything wrong with being dorky man...but if you ask me about your name Shinobid, sounds like a geeky computer game from way back bro. That would be like naming my cage PACMAN or TETRIS would it suit you better? I mean what would you suggest?

Zooman, I have a JEEP TJ wrangler dude, you'll see it next to the savage in some early shots. Not quiet a hardcore crawler like your friends yet, but I may work on it more once I get cured of this savage sickness..
No need to dye you cage man, looks good white..

Snuggs.....Don't mean to offend man...but
First of all Delrin is not a material...and is a brand, it's like asking for Colgate when your looking for toothpaste... The material will probably not be available in most places except USA, you need to search for ACETAL. It is not all that, compared to nylon, it is superior

Im not one of those guys that goes and launches my truck 20ft off of an ramp so i wouldn't calsify myself as an hard core basher.

Secondly, i prever the look of the truck without the body on, don't ask me why but it looks just a he!! of allot meaner that way!

I finally got my sorry buttocks off of the couch and started working on mine. I still need to finish the mounting brackets and other nylon support pieces for the cage.

Heres some pics of how my cage is progressing:

Mounting brackets and mai support beams of the cage:

Some mockup fits to the savy:

Eventually, the whole frame will be covered in sheet metal to give it that "not so naked look"

Any ideas on ways to improve it?

Thanks, thats the only way i could get round my lack of a mid-tank mod.

Haven't even considered the fact that the added with might help in correcting roll-overs.

I only have one concern thusfar, during an large inpact i'm affraid the way the cage is fitted at the back might shear off the screw that connect the mounting plate to the TVP. I will need to sort this out fast!

I bet once the sheet metal is fixed to it , it will be bombproof . Sheetmetal is the sweetest look IMO . Cant wait to see this one done .

Thanks man, the brackets isn't complete yet (should be tomorrow) so i stuck it on there wit some putty just to get the main idea across!

As for the added weigh, theres no worries here, have you seen the TYRES i'm running? HUGE AND HEAVY, so the sheet metal weight will not bother me at all (will most probably need a bigger engine in the end  :P ). As for covering, it would just be to give it a basic body shape, i wont cover the whole thing, mostly the sides and maybe part of the top, im still deciding though.

I still need to shape the other pieces though for reinforcement. i'll be using the shock towers as impact carrying point also to help and distribute the shock thoughout the entire cage and not have it focused in one single spot!

I'll definately need to sort yout covering the front as i dont want to go and bend my LST conversion kit thats on the way! :P Saying this, i dont know if my cage will be finished ontime though!  But i'll keep at it!

BTW, nylon is sure a pain in the *censored* to heatup and bend. A little to much heat and it starts boiling!

What size nylon rods did you use. For the main structure i used 12mm and for the rest i'll use 10mm and 6mm (the 6mm was only availible in white though :x )

Anyhow, this comp got my revo buddy so excited that he also had a go at doing a cage for his revo.
