Two Suggestions

Post by Eggbert » Wed Apr 29, 2009 11:55 am

1/ Back when I was learning to type, I was told to double space between sentences. This forum turns that into a question mark (?). Can this be changed?

2/ Why is it that sometimes I can select and view posts without logging in, and other times I am forced to log in? Anyway, wouldn't it be better to be able to view all posts without logging in? Might spark non-member interest (guests) enough to join up.

Veiwing posts without logging in is possible when you still have whatever cookie in your temp files I think. :?  If you clear them, you will have to log in again. The ? thing is a software glitch in the latest version of the software. Not sure if that will ever get fixed.

1. It is a forum bug that Oarie attempted to fix and unfortunately failed. Double spacing is actually a throw-back to the days of typewriters and is considered a little dated and unnecessary today. In fact, html ignores more than 1 space character in a row, so on a forum like this it yields no value. ( http://www.a3webtech.com/index.php/doub ... -stop.html ) I'm not trying to change your ways however, it is still very much preference. Just give it a thought.

Edit: Oops, seems the phpBB does correctly convert double spaces in to no-break spaces. Doesn't happen normally in HTML though.

2. The pictures forum, and maybe a couple of others inexplicably require membership to view. I have no idea why, it's always been like that. If I ran the forum, all would be world-viewable. Oarie and Squid call the shots still though ;)
