Your first R/C

Post by flatfender » Wed Oct 13, 2004 5:12 pm

my first R/C was a Tamiya Hornet
at the time I thought I had the coolest R/C out (hey I could beat my friends Frog  )
but looking back it was slow and took quit a bit of driving skill to make it seamingly fast, nowadays it looks slow as heck compared to my rs4 3 ss and my savage.
we've come a long way
mine's a 2a and it ain't no wrangler

Tamiya Falcon...with oil filled shocks...oooh....

It was pretty good, except that the plastick dogbones and axle drive-cups took a *censored* when I dropped in a Kyosho PT360 motor with a Novak T-1 esc. 8O It sure hauled *censored* until it blew the dogbones though. Also the front chassis kickup plate liked to break in half if you were hard on it. Then it took like a month to get replacement parts from MRC-Tamiya!

well lets see if if I can do some neuro pathway connections here.....hahaha

I purchased it back in the early 1980's ... maybe 1983ish

It was made by Simpson Sears or they were selling them... it was 2 wheel drive... electric... sand blaster type vehcle. I got a pic of it I'll have to dig up.

Image

Had alot of fun tearing it apart and detailing it to what you see in the pic. It didn't last very long though as I had bought in the winter months and after a couple weeks I was running it out doors and ran into the wheel of a pickup truck breaking 1 of the steering arms. No parts available and tried repairing it with jb weld... didn't last too long ... sure was fun while it lasted tho!!!

Just had a flash back too.... the very first one would of been a Cox Sand blaster. No remote you just set the wheels in a locked pposition and watched it go in circles. It had a glow engine tho and that was cool enuff for me. A big step up from my "Big Jim Sports Camper" LOL
If it ain't broke it must be a Savage!!

My older brother had a Cox sand blaster. I think we ran it once. Round and round it went till we got sooo bored.

My first RC was the Tamiya Super Champ. The best hunk of aluminum money could buy. It seemed so fast back then. The next was the Kyosho Ultima, which I still have and play with now and then.

i had that exact same rc and i got it for free from a neighbor when he seen me playing with one of my other rc's and the same thing happened to mine as what happeded to yours i hit a cement wall and broke the steering arm also i also tried to fix it and it worked a little but not to good anymore. o ya and also i tried to strap a fire work to it to make it "rocket powered" and it blew off the rear shock lol :D woops

My first "real" RC car/project was a Tamiya Road Wizard F1. I swapped out the mechanical speed control and put in an electronic one. I dropped in a Trintiy Black Cat (or Black Gold??) motor and there was no way - even with gearing changes - to accelerate without tailspinning. I picked up a Trinity Blue Print racing motor and that was perfect.

I still use this car ( I built it in 1988).

My first nitro was a Kyosho Rampage truck (1991). Still use that too!

My first R/C was a Nikko Turbo Aero.

Mine was red, otherwise the same as the one pictured on the above site, I think I got it in 1986 or 87.
