My Old Clodbuster

Post by CRUSADER » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:38 pm

Yep, I finally dug it out ...

First thing down off the shelf, though, was the transmitter. Everything was pretty dusty...

Now check this out - I haven't messed with this thing for more than 11~12 years. I put the thing away with the batteries in it ...

Image

...and the DURACELL batteries still have a strong charge!!  8O

Image

Now on to the truck itself...

The guts first...

Image

Image

Image

I'm not sure if the Ni-Cads still work. I'll try the charger tomorrow...

Image

The steering servo is HUGE compared to the stuff on my SAVAGE. I'll bet this thing is weaker & slower, too. If I actually get this truck running again, I have a feeling that this servo will get binned pretty quick, lol.

Image

I locked out the rear steering...stock motors, too:

Image

Image

And here's the truck with the body on...paint job look familiar?

I'll get it all cleaned up, checked out & charged. Then we'll see if this thing is still as much fun as I thought is was, lol.

Is that aluminum foil I hear crinkling?

Well, dang, I'm glad somebody thinks this antique is cool. I feel so ... so ... so ... ignored :(

C'mon - I'm not feeling the love, guys

So, who thinks I should turn this thing into a crawler? I cleaned it up & charged the batteries. Guess what? It still works!! I really didn't think it was going to work. After I cleaned it up I switched the truck on, then the Tx ... I pulled the trigger and I almost drove the thing off the workbench!

I just realized that I didn't get any photo's of the front end. I'll have to fix that. More pics to come.

I think the amperage drawn by the motors would depend on what I'm trying to get the
truck to do.

That NOVAK speed control can handle up to 10 cells, though. That's about 15 volts, fwiw.

I'd keep it classic. Cool that it still works.

Very nice, I'm digging the CZII chassis you have for it.  Glad she still runs after being in a dust heap for so long.

Here is a Clodbuster dedicated forum, if you don't already have the link. It's the Clod equivalent to SC

We'll see ... the thing bounces all over the place. Maybe some better shocks, oil, springs ... and tires. These tires do not have foams in them ... just air. Things have sure changed.

Very nice. It makes me want to get a couple of my old Kyosho trucks off the shelf. I still have almost every rc I ever owned. After 20 plus years, I've got a pretty large area of the garage piled up with rc stuff. If it warms up this weekend, I'll clean one of them up and post a few pictures.

If your turning it into a crawler, go to rccrawler.com.
Crawling is getting big and it's also somewhat addictive

Ah, I never saw this because I was away over new year.

Its absolutely AWESOME dude. Talk about a REAL monster. She's gorgeous.

Don't turn her into a crawler. Use a non-vintage RC for that, like a TLT or a AX-10

I like vintage RCs. And thats a sweet looking truck you have there. I bet that thins is as hard to get parts for as my Optima. I would make a crawler out of it. Just make sure to keep all the parts jou upgrade so it can go back to stock when your done.
