DYNAMIC MODELS PORSCHE One the first R/C's EVER! 60's/70's

Post by spokanevr4guy » Wed Jun 02, 2010 4:36 pm

So I now have in my posession one of the oldest RC cars I've ever seen. It's so old I can't find any information on it at all. Anywhere. If anyone has any information on this or knows about "Dynamic Models" please point me in the right direction. I'm in the process of cleaning it up as best I can, but it's all original, and all the electronics work! The engine turns over (by hand) and looks to be good, but I don't plan on driving it. Amazingly it's still in the original box, with original price tag (289.95!) and instructions, though the instructions have been eaten a bit by something, it's still super cool they they're in the box. I thought that the hold in the lid was from a mouse or something, but I think it was made by a previous owner to let the car anteana sit out of the box. I can't find a date on it, but the info I do find online basically mentions that Dynamic Models was one of the first companies that offered gas powered R/C cars and sold them in the late 60's, early 70's. Here's some pictures for you to check out:

Now through the past few years I've seen vintage R/C's go for OUTRAGOUS prices and those were early 80's models. I've been trying to get a sense of value on this thing but I seriously cannot find any info on it.  Has anyone seen anything like it before?

A relative picked it up at a yardsale 25 years ago for under $175 (I'm guessing' that's what's written on the box). They passed away recently and since my whole family knows I'm into R/C it was given to me. I think it's awesome, but I'll be honest, I'm looking at this for financial gains. It's not like my uncle used it at all, he was a hoarder so it just sat in his garage for years. Hopefully I'll find the right buyer. At $290 with no electronics or engine back in the late 60's early 70's, I figure this was a rich mans toy and not a lot of them were produced. The box says "No. 1000" and it very well could be that they were individually numbered. It's a super cool find, that's for sure.

Hopefully someone can help you figure out a value for it. I've seen old Tamiya kits for for crazy high prices, you should get good money for it for sure.

I posted this on RC Universe too, this was one of the responses I got:

"Dynamic launched this in 79, I believe they were only producing them through 81, The radio is from the 80's. A hobby shop by my old house had a blue one in about the same condition without a radio, box, or anything which sold for $1200. Look on the box, says its designed for an .015... haha. "

Okay, so the year information this guy gave me was totally wrong. The company went out of business in 1974. My car is definetly 69'-71'. Also, I've been told that what could be even more rare than the car itself is the radio equipement. Multiple people have told me that it's practically impossible to find radio gear that old (also not from the 80's like I was first told) especially in working condition.  Sowly but surely I'm finding out more info on this thing and the more I find, the more valuable it gets.

This was a great one too and could be totally and completely false, but an old timer at my LHS said they almost never started number cars at 0001. They would always start at 1000 or 6000 or 2000. So it could be, that this is the very first model of this series. Do I believe that? No, but it's always a "could be".

I'd love to track down the guy that started dynamic models to ask him questions, but his name is "Robert Johnson" so it's not like I could just search "Linkedin" his name and get contact info. :-) Dynamic itself was a big slot car company that branched into R/C when it first started up. (http://www.slotmonsters.com/slot-car-ma ... mpany.ashx)

I'll let you guys know if I get any more information...
Well done! What's on your shopping list?

Jeez, that's some serious money though...
Paid off a credit card.
Bought a new bulk head and a few other parts for the Flux.
2 new batteries for my P51 Mustang Micro
An AC adapter for my battery charger.

I had a friend that's been dealing with some really tough times and medical bills, ect, so I gave him a good chunk of cash and told him it was a gift, no need to pay me back. You can't imagine how good it feels to see a big, scary, tattooed guy tear up and tell you how much it means to him. It was an amazing feeling and worth way more to me in karma that it did in dollars.

I also bought an Optoma 1080p 3D Projector, Nvidia 3D vision setup with dual video cards, an amazing sushi dinner for my family...

Oh yeah, and a Brushless Revo with a set of 3S batts. (I know, blasphemy! But it's good to have some variety.).

And I've still got a nice chunk of change left over.  :-)

You know what they say: easy come, easy go. To me, this was sort of like winning the lottery so right off the bat I knew this was going to be 100% "fun money".

The best kind of money.

:-)
i think you sold it way cheap.
Looking around, there have been a few sidewinders sold for $600-1000. I never found one with the box, instructions, ect. So I think I asked a fair price. Could I have gotten more? Maybe. But at $3500 I'm not going to complain. If there's a guy in Germany laughing his *censored* off because I gave him a $15,000 car for $3500, good for him.  :). I'm still happy.
