Any Bikers on the site?

Post by dodgedude » Sat Apr 06, 2013 11:13 pm

My wife has acquired a 2003 Yamaha Cruiser Vmax 1200.

Neither of us ride nor do we intend to. Our ATV's are enough (Im still rebuilding mine from a 40foot tumble last fall)
We are going to sell this bike, but don't have the slightest clue what it is worth, if it is a decent bike, or anything really.
Its in excellent shape, never been layed over. The rubber is good, All parts are original from what I can tell.
We have the original bill of sale, plus an aftermarket exhaust to go with it.

What I do know is it was supposedly the faster production street bike of its year. Its registered as 1198CC's
I've joined a few bike forums to try and get some more information, but anyone on here is welcome to submit their 2 cents. Even if your not a biker :D

They're flippin' awesome bikes.  Around 150ish H.P.  They have what Yamaha calls 'V-Boost'; in a nut-shell, it's a four carb setup that uses 2 carbs from idle up until around 4500RPM, then all four open up and it kicks you in the pants so hard it's shocking.  They have a bad reputation for steering wobble if you ride with one hand at lower speeds(up to about 40MPH or so), but that can be cured cheaply with an aftermarket steering stabilizer.  Not the best handling bike, but man do they ever pack a punch.  They pull so incredibly hard, it's one bike that has actually scared me LOL.   The fuel tank is under the seat(as I'm sure you've figured out all ready), and the 'intakes' on the sides are purely cosmetic.  The aftermarket exhaust is actually the one on the bike in those pics; the factory OEM ones are the ones on the floor pic.  The ones on there sound sort of goofy and 'annoying loud', not 'good aftermarket' loud, and in my opinion don't sound near as crisp or mean compared to the OE ones.  The OEM ones sound right wicked at RPM, almost like a high revving small block in a weird way.

All in all you've found a real nice bike there! Based on the year and the mileage, I would think around 5000ish??

VMAX owners club

Vmax Forum.net

A friend of mine used to have one, he recommends checking the for sale forums there for pricing.

The Vmax by the way is one bad *censored* bike.  Considered trading my F3 for one once, but then I found out that as fast as it is in a straight line, it just doesn't cut it in the twisties with out some major work.

So tempting lol, I've wanted that bike since I first laid eyes on one! I've seen them on Kijiji a couple times but they don't last long, you should have no problem getting rid of it for a decent price.
