after 9 years i told my boss to stuff it

Post by Sharkey_t » Sat Apr 27, 2013 1:50 am

yep, over 9 years at the same shop and on monday i told my boss to cram it. some of you may recall what i do (or did), i was a transmission builder and diagnostician. ive been under increasingly large amounts of stress the last 6 month, and the last straw was when the paychecks started bouncing. gotta say it felt great to finally have the weight off my shoulders.

so what am i doing now? well, it sort of pushed me to quit my last job. a friend of mine works for a local hot rod shop, he is launching their car audio division. id helped them out a couple times with the computer side of things on some of the more complex drivetrains they have done, and last weekend was a big local car show. the week before i was there helping out every night and all weekend to get cars ready for the show. i was mainly there to help get my friends caddy ctsv done (built in a week, factory integration stereo setup with 3 amps, arc audio processor, 2 12s in a fiberglass sub box, all interior wrapped in suede, seats redone, lowered, taillights smoked, wheels painted) but ended up putting a lot of time into getting other cars running and together. the end result was i got offered a full time job as a mechanic and doing electrical work. needless to say after my paycheck bounced last friday, i took the job. here are some pics of the cars built at the shop from the car show

been a pretty wicked week. been doing some repairs on a couple of the cars that were at the show (they range from 12 year old build to the red vette, that was unveiled at the show), spent the last couple days troubleshooting some electrical glitches and tuning the black 63 corvette. its a twin turbo donovan smallblock, estimated at 850hp. next week i get to rebuild the transmission in the blue blazer and install the blower.

im still a little in disbelief. after more than 9 years i walked in and told my boss im done, and later that day my toolbox was dropped off at a shop that builds half million dollar cars.

Congrats on the new job.
The last company I worked for started bouncing checks too. After the first check bounced I got out of there. A few weeks later there was a newspaper article talking about them being investigated for mismanagement of federal funding.
If you are not happy with a job there is nothing wrong with looking for a better one.
Best of luck with the costom cars. The new company seems to really have its game together.
