Modified Power Wheels

Post by LLkoolskillet » Sun May 26, 2013 3:47 pm

Haha yep I made my sons power wheels faster! It started with a lil quad that runs on 6v. Did a little reading and it turns out there's a whole community of guys that do this. Well got some ideas and ran with it. I just bought a 12v 12ah battery and dropped it in with a little modding. I'll post pics of the fab work when I get home. But the lil quad looks all stock but underneath lies a monster. It's a lot faster than I thought it was going to be too.

The other project was a 1994 power wheels jeep super sound. This jeep is in great shape considering the age. I did a full tear down and rebuild and am still continuing to find the odds and ends to complete the project. The jeep started out red but finished black and yellow. My wife is a huge steelers fan, I'll let her have the color choice since I'm doubling the power lol. The project is not 100% yet but holy **** this jeep has ballz. This jeep had to go under the knife to in order to fit two 12v 12ah batteries.

Well the lil quad stock goes 2mph now I'd say its between 4-5mph under 12v. It actually looks a lot faster when he's on it. The jeep has a 2speed, well a high and low gear. The low gear stock is 2 1/2 mph and the high gear stock is 5mph. Under 24v it's like 6mph on low and 10-12 High. We still have to put the tailgate on, lights on the roll bar and hood latches. The wife is designing the steelers sticker too.

Unfortunately I scared my boy when I doubled the power on his quad and didn't tell him. The jeep, well that's double that and he's scared of it right now. I feel bad but at the happy. He'll soon want to ride them again. Daddy is mean making them faster lol.

I'll be a super excited dad when He finally musters up the courage to drive them again. I really wish I was his size again cause I would be having a ball. He showed more signs of interest in them today. As they say one day at a time.

I built a gas powerwheel out of lawn mower parts and bed frame steel. It has a 5hp B&S engine, 3 speed transaxle and goes about 10mph.

That's awesome dude!

Lately my son has been driving the jeep (finally) he's still unsure about going all out on 24v but he drives the crap out of it on 12v. The 3rd time he drove it on 24v he was in the grass and holy #%*? It's hauled.

One day ill have a go cart to ride with him

$60 is less than what I have in these but batteries are expensive

These motors are just 550 size brushed motors. You can use the e savage motors or a dewalt cordless motor as well. The motors in the jeep can go all the way to 48v or 24v each but they will over heat quickly. You can run them on 24v safely for extended periods of time. YouTube 48v or 36v jeep, it's insane the power they make. The little quad can take 24v but will overheat quick. You can run it on 18v but not for very long. 12v is the sweet spot
