*** The New and Improved OFFICIAL Savage FAQ! ***

Post by MX_125SX » Fri Feb 15, 2008 7:31 pm

Well, it seems that every day more and more people get savages and come here asking questions. Which of course is perfectly fine, but I think with this list handy, the same questions being asked will become less frequent. SO! here we go...

Basics
Skills you need before building a kit
What hop-ups should I buy for a new truck? (longer explanation post is a couple of posts below the linked one)
How to dis-assemble your savage
Abbreviation cheat sheet
How to use Savage-Central forum

Miscellaneous
Savage x parts compatibility with previous models
Best tire?
Hop Up Guide
Currency converter
R/C Dictionary

Online Stores
Savage Central Store

Self-help
The 12 Step program

And the infamous... " whats the best engine?"
My only advice... Read read and read some more.Read the reviews, read the specs, read the manufacturer's sites... and most of all... do NOT beleive the manufacturer's quoted HP of any motor. I'll give you newbies a start ... as of the date of this post, the most talked about engines are as follows (keep in mind there ARE more engines out there. These are only listed because of their relativly cheap price, ease of tuning, and performance. All very good things for the newbies)

Axial racing
LRP z28
Picco P3 28
OFNA force 28
See for yourself and browse engines with dyno results

Compatibility!
http://www.hpiracing.com/kits/updates.php?partNo=858
Careful attention has been paid to maintain the tradition of Savage aftermarket support. Most of the new Savage X features are compatible with the long list of Savage aftermarket parts already available, and older Savage trucks can be upgraded to most of the exciting new parts found on the Savage X.

Savage X parts that will fit on past Savage trucks:
Nylon Roll Hoop (more durable)
Nylon Rollcage (engine protection)
Warlock Wheels* (stronger 17mm hex hub)
17mm Hex Hubs (stronger)
GT-2 Tires (lighter)
Turnbuckles (easier to adjust) Transmission Case (easier to remove)
Differential Housings* (front and rear)(easier to remove)
Shock Towers (additional shock locations)
Suspension Arms (lighter)
Radio Box (easier access)
Slipper Clutch (dual pads plus rubber dampening) They did not Keep this design
Savage X Chassis Plates* (lowered CG)
F4.1 Engine
* May require a few extra parts for conversion

Parts carried over from past Savage trucks:
Internal Differentials
Internal Transmission
Dogbones
Driveshafts
Brake
Axles
Exhaust
Uprights
C Hubs
Body Posts
Body Position
Engine Mount & Plate
Servo Saver
Shocks and Springs

Past Savage parts that will NOT fit on the Savage X:
Alloy Roll Hoop
Spur Gears (hardened steel gears will fit with new inner hub)
Polycarbonate Receiver Cover
