!!!Buyer Beware!!! - RC related shops to be wary of

Post by SV250 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 7:56 pm

Bcane started a buyer beware thread a while back. I cant find it. I think he had it in the B/S/T forum so it got auto-deleted. Threads in that forum are automaticly deleted if ther hasnt been a response in 30 days.

I think this is a great tool as important as the feedback sec so I'm starting a new one and makeing it a sticky.

This is only for bad sellers. Nothing to do with quality. Another words if you buy an Integy roll bar from somebody and it breaks the next day, its not the sellers fault.

My first one to add to the list is Innovative-RC. His cust service has been terrible. Numerous complaints. The people who do receive their orders are getting very late. My order is 15 days old now. He said he would send it right out on the 13th and send a tracking #. No tracking # yet. Ive sent 2 more emails and no response.

List of businesses to beware of
Orange is a warning about purchasing - meaning some people have had problems, slow orders etc
Red is an advisory against buying - widespread problems, scammers, etc.

Online Shops
 • Innovative RC - Slow orders, poor quality machining in areas, lack of response to support emails.
 • Bishop Power Products - Many people have had absolute no shows on orders reaching back months and months.
Ebay Sellers
 • Buddy420 - Poor service and incorrect parts
Edited by kiz 23/10/08 - added list

I would like to jump on the opportunity to say that Bishop Power Products (www.b-p-p.com) has disappointed me quite a bit

In short, I ordered a brushless motor and ESC (electronic speed control) on May 15th 2008, and I have still not received the stuff I ordered and paid for!

A bunch of stuff went "bad" - like both the motor and ESC going out of stock - motor supposedly not being produced any more - and ESC somehow on back order for the last few months now... sigh :|

Email correspondance has been a real downer also... I emailed the BPP guy (Troy) a bunch of times - often without reply at all - and when I get a reply it's sometimes 14 days or three weeks delayed...

He's real polite and friendly when he does answer me, I just wish he would make the delivery happen!

I finally got an agreement with Troy that he would send me another brushless motor and another ESC. That was back on July 20th 2008. And I have still not received anything. He emailed me the shipping receipt but that's not really usefull to me at all since I still have not received a tracking number(!)

I purchased the goods during a discount periode where international shipping (with USPS) was free. This has turned out to be highly sucky, since USPS doesn't provide a tracking service. I really wish he would have used a shipping service with a tracking number - and I have requested a number of times that he did so... cause this just sucks donkey dick big time with a capital T

I still hope this will work out - I may be naive - but I have not resorted to yelling at the guy yet. I think he has had a lot of problems with his shipping guys/services. It just truly sucks to be on the receiving end!!

My RC18T was supposed to be flying around with 300 watts of electric power by now... instead it has been collecting dust since before I got my first Savage   Aaarrrgh!!! :!: :!: :!:

Hrrmmph! I'm feeling [s]somewhat[/s] more that a bit annoyed about this - and it's now October 16th 2008...

PS - I know that other forums have discussions going on about BPP... so it's too late to warm me. Now I have warned you instead!

I don't know if im jumping the gun on this or not but i would like to list ebay seller Buddy420

Reasons:

I won some items in his action on the 9th of this month. After about 4 to 5 messages he finally updated the order on the 12th and gave me a quote for the shipping. I payed on the 12th and uptill now i still have not been informed about my tracking number and whether or not the items have been shipped. Only received an email on the 15th from him enquering whether or not i recieved that tracking number via email, which i have not. So today its the 17th and i presume that the items have indeed been shipped but i am still stuck without my tracking number. Excuse me, but after paying nearly $40 in shipping (Priority Mail International) for 6 items and sending a multitude of mails requesting my shipping number and confirmation that the items have been shipped, i want my *CENCORED* tracking# and confirmation.

Im starting to think that this was one major scam and it just makes me Image as H3LL!

Just my .02 cents here.  When posting the username, or website, post it in bold so anyone scanning the thread can see the warnings!!!

Finally got my order. 21 days later. Products are top notch. Cust. service leaves a lot to be desired.
I would like to jump on the opportunity to say that Bishop Power Products (www.b-p-p.com) has disappointed me quite a bit
Smurffy! This is almost *exactly* the same story that I have been having. I ordered a mamba max system and a charger back at the 18th June. Troy has been giving me the run around ever since. I am very close to opening a pay-pal dispute and getting Better Business involved, it has been going on far too long. I ordered a battery from BPP two years and a half ago and the order went through without problem, so I don't know what has happened to BPP since.

So this is my big red mark for Bishop Power Products - dont buy from them.

I have added a list at the top of the thread. This will make it easier to view and categorize the complaints.

EDIT: Update to situation and a rather bitter end, read here

I would like to add TOWER HOBBIES to the list of slow, lame providers.
Unless you pay for their uber expensive shipping, they will actually (for no other reason) hold your order for 2 days before shipping it.  That's customer harassment and bad business.
If you read there polices it states that it can take up to two business days to process. As big as Tower Hobbies I understand this. I have been dealing with them for well over 10 years and they have some of the best customer service I have seen. Any problem I have had they more then rectified it. If you do not agree with there polices then you might be happier going elsewhere.
Thanks.

I can understand your frustration at that, but I don't think it's really enough to add to a buyer beware list. Personally I have been more than happy with all my orders from tower, and I think their vast range of available parts and good information and important notes on each individual product makes up for any shortcomings.

++++++++1 :D I had a few problems with them but they always made it more then right. They sent me a OS pipe once that was on sale and discontinued and when I received it had a dent in it. I called them up and they gave me my money back as they not longer has that pipe and told me to keep the pipe. I filled it with water capped it froze and got 99% of the dent out.

Another time I got a bad fuel pump for pumping fuel from the bottle and they just sent me a new one and said to keep the defective one( good for parts). All so if you go to there sister company you get coupons and free freight over $100.  :D

I placed and order with them a couple weeks ago on Saturday nigh (not consider as a business day by any business!) had my order on Wednesday and I live in Georgia.  :D

tower have lunsford bits in here book they send out and i buy from them once a month and it takes 7-10 days to make it to australia.
Im more than happy with the service and price for there cheap shipping over high price shipping other companies use.

I have found them cheap with a good range and far prices, i some times think that the u.s.a customers have no idea what its like to have to buy 95% of there r/c products from half way across the world as with taxes, shipping and mark up we australians pay through the nose at shops and ebay over here.

Example roto starters : ebay here $85.00 l.h.s $115 u.s.a ebay 29.00 shipped

I guess im saying stop your whinging

Are you telling me to stop whining because I live in the USA?  lol

I've ordered from Tower 24 times and spent $2413.56 with them.  I think I have every right to "Whine" about their crappy policies.

Sounds like you are doing all the whining and mostly about where you live.
