On road setup and jumping setup.

Post by sur3fir3 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 7:39 am

I have a savage xl, with lrp .30 spec 2, premounted phaltlines, and a ofna 053 pipe.  running 52/14.  This setup is mostly stock, for doing jumps. I got 35 weight in the rear shocks and 30 in the front.  I need to know what parts i should pick up for doing speed runs, that are easily removed and replaced. In other words I dont want to replace the TVP, or the DIFFs every time I want to switch styles.  Any advice is useful.

Thanks

Well if I were you I wouldn't hit too many ramps with the phaltline's, I thought those were street tires. As far as making a bashing truck I think you're good there you just need some off road tires, that will help reduce some of the stress the suspension will have to take. I think the biggest change you may want to make is your gearing, if you want speed you may want to raise it a little. Personally I would go with a 17 tooth cb  and switch between the 47 tooth spur for bashing and the 52 that you have for top speed. I hope I'm right with the gearing, I suck at that. lol

17/47 gearing is perfect for BOTH bashing and speed runs. The fastest recorded savage hits 52 mph with this gearing. You will also have plenty of low end power with your LRP 30.

If you want speed runs without changing anything just pull some of the preload spacers out of the shocks and it will drop it lower. I also suggest grabbing the 086 pipe or if money is there grab the ERCM endbleed. An aluminum clutch would also be a great idea. So far I'm impressed with the maxlife shoes (SXL would roll if he saw this).

+1 to LL

And I've heard of plenty of people who run the 'max lifes' and love them.

I have an aluminum clutch, I was running phaltlines this past time to the park because I wasn't doing anything out of this world, and I will pick up a 47 tooth spur next time I make an order.  I don't want to just remove spacers and go... I was thinking of going with the Big Bores when racing around, and the 8 shock setup for bashing.  As far as getting tires for bashing what would you recommend.  I've usually stayed with pro line and have used bad lands before, but does anyone know of any others that might be a bit cheaper?

I will just throw this in, if your looking for cheap bashing tires try some savage XL's they are big and bouncy and doak up heavy landings nicely. They will be rubbish for speed runs. I run XL terrapins for bashing and have had no problems at all.

Ill give the Terra pins a shot, I didn't think their traction would do much good on metal, as all the ramps and walls are made from metal where I bash.

Big bores are better for bashing, I fill mine with 40wt

+1 on terra pins but if you want to keep with proline them 40 series trenchers is my absolute best basher tire

+1 on the big bores and if you go with the trenchers, check out the trencher x's.

It was 52.9 but the vid has crapped out and isn't in synch anymore. We got a challenge to beat 50mph and within a couple hours it was done lol.
