Franken Savage Build

Post by Rotten-Wiener » Sun Mar 04, 2012 11:56 am

I am fairly new to the hobby and would love any feedback to help me along
You can check out the progress at http://photobucket.com/Rotten-Wiener
The build is about 60% complete, and have to wait for remaining flm parts to come in.

Looks good to me, only thing i think it needs is a little dirt, or a lot.  :)

This being my first build, it is also a learning experience.
Here is my savage 4.6 before raping it.

For the most part I will be going with FLM products since they are tough and look great.

Here I have assembled a FLM bulkhead with stock savage x skid plate, and diff.
Everything so far fits verry well withought any mods.

Anyone know what the weight difference is between the stock bulkheads and the FLM bulkheads?  Do they add alot?

I dont know how much weight they add,  but I didnt plan them in my build because I like to be able to pull my diffs out without pulling the TVPs apart.  If they had an access door like stock I would have used them.  They look like a very well made part, It was hard not to order them.

Now at this point I was stuck waiting for a bulkhead because my order was short one, Ken at RCDIRECT sent one out to me as soon as he got a picture of the package it came in. I still put it together sort of... just to see how it would look, so I slaped what I had together and this is what it looked like a month ago.

I had gotten the wrong center skid plate, but I made it fit simply by bendind it, the trick here is to do it in one bent so the plate stays strong. There is a gap now as seen in the picture, but I will benifit from this when i rince off my savage the crap has an opening to fall out of.

Its witer here and I am having trouble keeping my engines running ( AXIAL .32 S 1 - HPI 4.6 ), I just cant tune for crap. Took me fore ever to figure out my mid and high needles had dry seized, so when i had adjusted them i tore one o'ring on each valve.I wont lie, it made me angry like green angry. My resolve so far but untested is permanently seal tha son of a ?*&#$ mid needle with JB Weld to a factory flush setting ( I found a new carb for 50$ and I might have to buy it if I dint do this right ). Will gi you an update on that in a few days when its warm enough to start it outside. I also plan on getting a new high speed needle valve with new o'rings cause that crazy idle stuff I dont like.

These bad boys could use a, little extra weight down low and in between the wheels imo.

Yea they need to be weighed on a scale.  When I am done with mine I am going to bring it to the post office and have it weighed.  I want to know how much all the alluminum really adds to the stock weight.  A savage is already a fairly heavy rc,  Thats why my bbq pit had to be thrown away after a collision during a high speed cartwheel.
