Any Reason to Belt Phaltlines?

Post by Velocity_Stack » Sun Jan 11, 2015 9:46 am

I'm just curious if belting a phaltline tire is necessary?

I'm not doing extreme speeds like LL, but it's a one time shot when one orders wheels and tires separately and go in for that first time gluing on the project.

I want to do it right the first time.

I personally always recommend belting tires.

I had really bad luck with the Phaltlines. Lasted less than a gallon. Ugh

Belting adds weight, throws the wheel off balance and causes extreme sidewall stress. I tried one set. Never again. Belting to me is a bad idea.

I gorrila tape Belt every set of tires I get. Don't go crazy on the tape, a single strip is good, doesn't add much weight at all just weight the tires and see. The wheels are not balanced either way but you can balance them with or without belting and it is recommended either way but only really nessesary (as a matter of opinion) if pushing wheel RPM up real high.

LL runs smaller wheels for less drivetrain load, this requires more wheel RPM and balancing can help if the wheels need it but I think XO-1 wheels should be relatively balanced, never hurts though lol.
