looking at some street tires

Post by realsickclown » Sun Apr 14, 2013 6:55 am

Ok everybody I'm tired of these Trenchers grinding gears and am looking at a lighter tire. I just rip asse around the yard and out in the gravel packed roads, grass, dirt. well I guess everything except mud I would still have the trenchers for that.

Is this for the flux or nitro?

If its the flux, me personally I like the stock gt2 wheels for driving on road or dirt. I know I'm weird for sayin that but my flux with them is a lot of fun to drive. Besides full throttle on 6s is but for a mere second or so anyways lol. Now the reason I am suggesting not to run the phaltlines is that they don't provide the traction your looking for on the street. I haven't ran the road rage on the flux but I have on nitro and I would guess its going to be the same as the phaltlines. The flux just has to much torque off the line.

For nitro I would grab the road rage, they give you a lower profile and you can still go drive in the dirt if you wanted too. Phaltlines are only good on the street.

Another option would the Dirtbonz from the SS kit. I'd tape them for the flux tho. It's a great light weight wheel and offers the best of both worlds in terms of terrain choice.

thanks LL,, but these are for my XL conversion w/F4.6 and 3spd. I was leaning more towards the road rage as they look to have more sidewall and are a pinch wider then the Phaltlines. I'm trying to find that perfect tire for my rig for everything

Haha when you find them, you'll have gone thru a bunch more sets just finding them. I have a HUGE box filled with sets of tires trying to find one that's perfect.

I would grab the 40 series road rage and mount them on axial 8 spoke wheels. That would be sick. Also what kind of gearing you running on your setup?

15CB with a 52T spur . The 3spd helped out alot, now I'm fine tuning everything. Overall it is running pretty good

Ive tried a few sets of Road Rage on different R/C's I hate the way thety ware. Slides. Locking the brakes, 1 wheel burn outs etc make the tires feather. I havent  tried my Phatlines yet.

those are the same size as the stock GT tires, right? I had those (stock GT) on it for a couple tanks and I was not digging it at all so they are back on the savage25. now I have the trencher 40 series on tech5 rims pre-mounts. I am finding out they are a little heavy for my driving style, I keep hearing gears grinding occasionally when landing.

Naw there not to small for the XL. Dirtbonz mounted on a correct rim size will not really balloon like the gt2's will. I ran the DBz on my truck for a while and absolutely loved them. They handled great and had enough cushion if you wanted to drive off road. Remember you could always belt tire

+1 on dirt bonz, really great tire. Weighs in at silly 215grams as well.

But I also agree that they can look a bit small on the xl frame.
It does look good if one is running a low ride heigt imo. Just like in llcools pictures.

Oh, and the bonz feels better with firmer foam.

Belting a tire, you apply 2 rounds of gorilla tape down the centers  and that's it? Is there  to be concerned with when belting? Or do I  just slap the tape on glue them down and roll?

Yep that's all I did and they've held up to 60mph with no ballooning

If you want to be anal, make sure to clean the inside rubber and use a hair dryer too heat the tire/tape. It will stick better...

I always have only used one lap with about 15-20mm overlap.
