Savage Flux Must do Mods and upgrades 2015

Post by cbrkhan » Thu Aug 20, 2015 10:13 am

Hi Guys,
Totally new to RC Trucks/cars. I have picked up a 1/8 HPI Savage Flux after doing tone of reading and comparisons.

I still need to learn how to drive so I will not be too rough with it to start out but I do want a reliable machine that does not break too often

Various threads going back years suggest several but mostly similar upgrades (list below) to make the Savage Flus more reliable. Have there been any improvements to Savage Flux over the years making some of the upgrades unnecessary? For example, do current 2015 model need all the upgrades suggested by someone in a 2010 flux upgrades thread?

Here is a small list that I have compiled. Are these still needed in the most recent model?

I advise you to check every screw on the Savage and then just start driving it and if you break anything upgrade that part.

This way you can learn what parts are needed for you..

I am a little confused particularly on 17 mm hex hubs

I have a stock 1/8 Savage Flux that will be converted to XL specs with

When I search for 17mm hex... I get too many choices with different axle sizes. How do I figure out which one will fit.. some talk about 6mm axle other do 5mm

here are some links where i looked

The Flux comes with 17mm Hexes.  What do you want the adapter for?

He is after the hub adaptor so he can run 17mm wheel nuts.

I agree with caretaker but upgrading the hubs and wheel nuts is a good idea for any savage owner... HPI make the 17mm hub adaptor kit. Comes with pins, nuts and thread lock. I wouldn't do an XL conversion before getting a good feel of the standard flux chassis first.

The rpm arms are all show IMO ... Savage arms are strong out of the box.

I would get a skid plate and just run the standard shocks/springs for now.

Sway bars are cheap ... But it's up to you dude... Personal preference

I'm still deciding if I'm going to go Flux or XXL ... Good luck

I've even read people NOT recommending the RPM-arms because they are so flexy that drivshafts bend when they flex.
