Clutch Kit Options

Post by Mendoza » Fri Jul 03, 2015 6:27 am

Hey Fellerz,

I have run stock XSS 4.6 and savage 25 clutch kits before, I have also run the silver aluminium clutch shoes with standard HPI 34mm flywheel and 17TCB.

I'm installing a Novarossi 28-8 powerplant this weekend and plan on running the same 34mm flywheel set-up but intend to run with the HPI purple weighted alu shoes with 1mm springs with the new mill.

Anyone got broader experience in clutch set ups... E.g. Buku, Werks, Nova, JB and/or 4 shoe options? Is there a standout / must have?

I have read the 3 shoe all alu are best for the Sav. Any experience anyone wants to share about the HPI purple shoes or other advice would be appreciated.

The hpi purples are pretty soft and wear quickly. Any 7075 alu shoe is a good choice with 1.0 springs. I have a werks and buku clutch. Great clutches but not necc on a savage

Not flywheel. Yes on bell.

If youre thinking buku, you will need the brass set.

When you say brass, your talking shoes right? And if so why not run that new composite material they talk about instead? Apparently last forever, great feel, blah blah blah??

Just to round out this clutch thread.

I've ran the purple aluminium shoes for a gallon now and SV is right, they're a bit soft... About half worn.

So I ended up with the Buku 34mm aluminium option. It's a nice kit and comes with everything, shims, loctite, pilot nut. And it fits the savage X CB.

Wowsers, like 100$ on a clutch... Does it last a really long time?

Cost $70 at my LHS. Got a good deal as I bought 4 gallons of VP fuel at the same time.

The marketing blurb, some people on this forum and the LHS owner said this is apparently the longest lasting clutch but we will soon see  :?:

I've been running the purple HPI alu shoes and 1mm springs for a gallon but TBH they don't engage and grip as well as I would have liked. So I'll give these a shot.

I went though issues with clutches and funny the integy clutch I found to be good, the 7075 set. For me in Canada the Buku set goes for 105$ plus shipping. The local hobby shops around here are a joke they have nothing in stock and order stuff at a crazy mark up. That Buku clutch would be no less than 150$ at my LHS, and cost around 130$ shipped if I grab it online. I would like your impression as I've spun flywheels off collets a bunch of times and go through shoes like crazy a good resolution would be nice, but 130 to 150 I need to be confident.

Believe me bro, Hobby shops in Syndey suck hard... I got lucky with this one but tbh I have to drive over an hour to get to him. Everywhere else this costs about the same as you can get it for, but this guy is way out of Sydney in an industrial area and I think his rent is super low. He is a real enthusiast and imports his own stuff so I think that's why.

Being in Australia is bad when it comes to ordering. Most of my stuff I get from Amain,  Absolute or EBay.com but shipping is a kill3r and now the USD is hurting me too.

I'll let you know how I go with the buku ... Just waiting until I destroy the purple HPI's first.

Old post, how did they do? I am fixing to put on 3rd set. Hpi purple was a joke, my stock fibers lasted about as long. Was thinking about trying the silver hpis or integrity. Can't spend 10 on shoes.

Don't read much about the Buku clutches tbh.  I guess people do't want to try them..

I know that Integy makes decent clutch shoes.

If you want a real good clutch you could check out the JVD 4 shoe clutch.  i have been using for years and love them.
