Savage xl Shock upgrade

Post by ASBURY » Thu Feb 11, 2016 11:01 am

What is the preferred shock upgrade for savage xl nitro. I am thinking about going to 4 shocks or do you think just leave the 8.

I don't have any experience setting up the suspension for that sorry, I have only raced off road and bashed. Hopefully someone will be along who can help.

What do you recommend for bashing? I think sometime back this ? Was address when everyone was doing the tank throttle and BP 3 speed. I just now decided to upgrade my shocks f there is any gain meaning lighter body weight.

I went with Baja 5B shocks, but then again I like to jump my Savage off the roof of my house.  :)  It's not a recommended upgrade.

I knew a guy who built a street Savage and he ran 4 in the back and 2 in the front.  Not sure if that helps any.

The Big Bore shocks that come stock on newer Savages are decent shocks.  Get you down to 4 instead of the eight.

Yep................... 4 big bore is good for racing. I like the 8 shock setup for bashing.

I run 8 regular shocks (not big bores). I have them setup with 15 wt oil that works fine for me, I don't run on paved surfaces.Shocks is something you have to playaround with (rebuild with different oils until you get what you want). I never had bigbores so I cant say.

I have seen somewhere on net , someone put 8 bigbores on savage xl. As for me the regular 8 shocks with metal caps on head works fine. I am not a heavy basher. it all depends on how you drive/bash .

I have eight big bores on a heavy truck. Works well for that application.
