How To: LST Shock Mod

hey midnight, i used some 5-40 threaded shafts and moved the top of the shocks inward to the holes closest to each other.   it made the truck a lot lower.  now my a-ars are level.  i havent tested it out on the track yet...goddam NW rain.  anyone in the NW hit me up.

TKS I could just about ready to burst with the sh**ty weather down here. its nice during the week then the weekend comes the winds blowing a gale and rain. this sucks cause I work all week long.

thats good you figured out a good ride hight,,, usually like the rear suspention to hang lower than the front so the a arms are flat out back. this is a good suspention tune for perfomance less roll,hooks better in the corners, handles jumps good.

Just installed the shocks on my savage and they look real cool.
i have FLM arms and shocktowers but went for a self fabricated mounting.
I can always order the FLM conversion later..






I only think the stock springs aren't stiff enough so i will order some Raven dual rate springs next week..

wow nice.  especially without a fabbed mounting kit.  i like my IRC kit, but the shipping took forever, granted it was free shipping.

caretaker.....how much does your truck weigh?  i'm curious.

It weighs 6.2kg. ?i have a set of Big Joe's with Axial oversized wheels on the way so i think it woill be close to 7 kilo's then.

if i calculated right it will be ?13.6pounds ? and after adding the big joe's just over 15 pounds.

i just got my fast lane machine lst shock mounts and they mounted up perfectly on there shock towers. i wanted to add this they supply those aluminum spacers that fit perfectly in the slot where you would mount the original shocks. what you end up doing is mounting the shocks on the outside of the normal posistion while inserting the aluminum spacer in the normal spot. i laced up all four and took it to the garage and dropped it from 4 feet and it didnt even slap the ground i do fear that i used to thick an oil i used a 50 weight and i put the yellow prings on the rear shocks only because they didnt have a second set at the hobby shop when i went to get my shocks. so i am excited to take the truck out to the park and see how it handles. i also got the wheel xetenders from integy and it has a wide stance now with the lowe profile  tires i am really hoping to go full blast more often than not even in the  turns..

good, I run LSTs on my savage, I love 'em. I have found that when I break shafts, caps its way more of a value to just buy the whole shocks off ebay.

2 plastic threaded LSTs on ebay 13$
2 shock shafts 12$

heads up on the Raven dual rate springs. These things are STIFF. I dont know if they make a medium rate stiffnes ones. I put them on my truck and with no preload they make my truck ride height alot higher. It looks cool but even at low speeds its not stable. I cut off 1 coil on the top of each spring and the ride height is lower.

It is possible, yes. It's made more difficult because there is more possibility of the shocks interfering with other things. You need stand-offs for the arms and some sort of brace to strengthen the upper mounts. You can see in the photo someone has used a tie rod to this effect.

Note you need offset wheels to make it work. Your XL has offset axles so it will be fine.

So straight to the bottom XL Arm and shock tower with some sort of reinforcement should be adequate?

Yup! You'll need stand-offs for the lower arm and LST stand-off/bushings for the towers. The rest is up to you.

Sorry to sound like a pain, but we can mount the shock to the stock arms? We have to buy standoffs?

precisly. The shocks will fit. They are pretty close to a direct bolt o. You simply need to space them out to clear the upper arm and tie rods.

if your going to go LST Get the IRC kit, I have wrecked my truck several times and a standoff up top wont hold up, they are weak, whats so hard about this?

Update on my Raven springs this is def the way to go. I cut some of the coils off and wow. my truck cuts like a knife trough the turns I can see my truck is about a a tire change away from being a local track TERROR

you know, I was just festering over this little temper tantrem I had earlier. I got to thinking the standoffs work on the Losi,,,right? yes they do ,, and probally just fine on a savage also but the IRC kit bolts right up and adds alot of strenght to the assembly blah bla blah my head hurts LOL cheers -AJ
