Re: How To: LST Shock Mod

well I mounted IRC kit on my X looks awsome all the hardware for this kit is great. I got the tie rod relocator in and I noticed It fit well when i screwed it in but when I got the truck all back together the tie rod ends still needed to be installed this is impossible to do with the truck all put back together :x the instructions fail to say to install the tie rod ends to the relocator then put the truck back together. another bug i found was the screw kit was not complete it was missing four screws that screw upward into the bottom front mount. the specail washers were thier but no bolts? I dont really see the need for the other end to be secured as the one nut and bolt holds it down is very secure. I will get some bolts from the hardware store to comple the front bottom shock mount. but that was the only thing missing, I can live with that. pretty dang good parts throughout the kit. I also weighed the new kit it is a quarter pound heavier with shocks than the stock setup. I dont mind the extra wieght at all but if I was racing I would be a little concerned. also noticed a slight bit of flex in the front shock toweres backward as i push down and bottom out the truck. I see a set of aluminum shock towers in the future. this bit of flex may prevent shock body damage during hard landings :?

i purchashed the shocks off ebay for 40$ all four off a Losi XXL anybody think those springs are too big for a savage they seen kinda stiff. I like look of the springs are chrome plated matches the hardware nicely. 8)

A week and a half? Who are you kidding? That's more than reasonable. The price of the kit was cheap and the shipping was free, I really don't see what you are complaining about.

i dont know how you guys do it over there in the UK...but here in america, when someone says "it will arrive in 2-5 days" i expect it in 2-5 days.  and i have never purchased anything online before that took over a week to get it packaged, then a few more days before it gets shipped.  i order from a place in china that ships same day.  try that robert.  how dam lazy are you that it takes a week to put it in a box, then that box sits there for a few more days waiting...c'mon, this guy is a lazy piece of.....go get a job for someone else because you obviously cannot manage a business properly.

basically if you say you're going to do something, do it.

I have an x dont worry it will be there soon just try to have a littlemore patience overseas shipping is a pain.

and Kiz I would'nt worry too much about the four bolts missing something like a much more needed peice to get the kit complete would be something to be concerned about. I picked up the missing bolts project is 100% complete. four bolts costed me under 1.00$ at the hardware store. am a very pleased with converiontion kit quality parts thoughout.

Lets throw another log on the fire. Kiz do you know what wieght oil is in the shocks from a Losi xxl It seems way thick the spring resistance is fine but I need to switch shock oil wheigt.

Yeah I just don't want to be suggesting people buy kits that aren't complete.

According to the XXL manual, it's 30wt. That should be pretty smooth... If you're finding the resistance too much maybe the shocks just need breaking in? Or maybe you just prefer lighter damping.

got the kit all installed. ?i like the quality of the kit. ?the instructions suck lol. ?they are for an older kit using a little different of a piece for the arms. ?but it worked out. ?i had to notch out a little on the TVP's to allow room for the screw heads that hold on the tie rod. ?

my kit had extra lock nuts and washers

thanks kiz I love the way the shocks look

knowing what shock oil in the shocks was very helpful. If you could help me just a little more. I read in the begging of you write up awsome job by the way that the yellow spring are a little stiffer than a stock setup. what spring rate and oil wieght would get me closer to stock. I also read to run your truck and the springs will soften up.

I lost the screw for bleed hole on the cap, bummer

heres a quick link to the XXL manual for XXL LST shock parts

i'm debating between 45 and 50 wt shock oil.   i havent adjusted mine yet.

CAN YOU GUYS POST YOUR SHOCK SETUPS?

HOW FAR YOU TIGHTEN THEM DOWN (IF ADJUSTABLE)
WHAT WEIGHT YOU USE
WHAT MOUNTING POSITIONS YOU CHOSE

well what oil and spring rate to use is persononal preference. if you know which losi truck your shocks came off helps alot. then you know what you have and can work on tuning your shocks from there.

I have the shocks that came off a XXL losi, the shock oil was a little heavy for me, switched to 25 wt oil and that is really close to what stock setup was. i usually adjust the back spring preload so that it saggs a little so the truck rides lower out back so it hooks in the corners and doesnt rollover as much

I use 35wt oil, RC Raven dual rate springs and zero pre-load. Outer upper mount positions and my lower mounts are a bit different from yours, but I use the lowest mount positions.
