Windows Game Controller Configuration of the VRC USB Adapter

Post by Wheelin_Rev » Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:03 pm

Are there better instructions on how to configure the controller for the HPI TF-3 Transmitter and RF-6 Receiver with the Windows Game Controller? I keep getting various error messages when trying to cofigure a custom controller. TIA! Dave

Racin Rev what up..

Got my VR USB thing.Today and plugged it into the cpu Vista X64.
Windows find drivers and installs them.
Open up game and goto menu and pick the right usb thing..
Goto to config/test. When I open it shows a RC controler in a window.
Now i plugged in the RX to the usb thing.
Center the trims and press next. ok
Then it says to move the gas to full and pess next. Ok
It says the channels are mixed up. I switch wires.
Open config/test start over and all is good.

Black wire is on the out side of the rx case when plugging in the wires right ?
Looking at the usb thing there an arrow on one side. If that arrow is facing up the right side wire go'es to the Ch2 . This is the stock radio like yours.

It's the $35 one. VRC-3NT USB
Hope it help ya if not i'm here..

I have the $20 USB version for analog systems with a Windows XP OS.

I am failing at step 2 in your list. No drivers are loading. When I plug the USB device in, it comes back with a not recognized error. I suspect this is the root of my problem.

Are there drivers available on the VRC site?

1) Is your os up to date ?

2) Does it show up in the device manager ? Open device manager and plug it in and see if it shows up. If it does. open it and update drivers maybe......

3) let me know

Checking the vr site

Here what I found..
Here the forum site link
http://www.virtualrc.com/forums/forumstart.aspx

"Hey Charles do not know if you solved the controller issue, but on another post they advised to go to control panel if using Windows XP and selecting game controller go to advanced options and make VRC controller your preferred option. Mine is now working. Good luck."

"Hi Torben, have you tried going to Control Panel (if using Windows XP) and selecting Game Controllers. Make VRC controller your default controller, go to advanced settings and calibrate from there it should work then."

My OS is up-to-date and I am pretty well taught in the Winows NT Operating System.

Where does one find new drivers for the game controller. Does VRC have them somewhere?

Looking at the VRC forum, there are a large number of posts with inoperative controllers that are stuck where I am... Failure of drivers loading leading to a wizard. Many are wanting their money back.

As for me, I hope to get this working so I can do some online practice and racing this winter.

Progress...

This morning when I booted up the system, the USB game controller device from VRC was properly detected! Yes!

There is a red LED inside the USB device blinking at a rapid pace. Regardless of how I plug up the receiver, no activity on the x/y or z axis are detected. Calibration does not work.

QUESTION: Is the LED supposed to always blink at a rapid pace or does it ever go on solid? I can turn the connectors around on the receiver and the LED stops blinking and goes dim. Is this correct?

Looks like I'll need baby step assistance in getting this working. I hope that you all don't mind.

Making progress...

I am also starting to suspect that the USB device is receiving Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) since there are no RF chokes on the wires coming out of the USB connector.

QUESTION: Do any of you techies have a clamp-on RF choke that I could take off your hands?

I ask because I cannot drive and am in a wheelchair. I do all of my buying via mail order. Thanks for your assistance!

Sweet that you know your PC. I just wanted to start with the simple stuff first.
No flashing here. Solid red glow pretty bright. Lights up my hand if it's 4 inch away..
You did try the control panel thing right. Just checking, that seem to be most poeples problems..
I've try changing the plugs around even backwards Pos to neg and NO FLASHING AT ALL.
The Flashing might be the drivers part not sure..

When I goto the device manager and look at the drivers it's a genaric one and half of my usb are the same one. So not sure.

As for the racing with the controler. For me it seems hard to do.maybe i need more time.
I'll keep poking aroung to see what i can find..

It took me a while to get set up as I said in my post.
If the steering and throttle aren't connected right, i won't work.
If you follow the instructions on the VRC site, it will work, that is how I got it done. But to recap my original thread, I had to calibrate a couple (OK, maybe 5 or 6 times) before the function was right.
Also a couple things I have noticed since then:
Plug in adaptor with reciever hooked up before you open the game.  Red light will flash when radio is off, and will be on bright once radio is on.  Game will not reconize adaptor if you plug it in after game is started.
I'll go look through my original thread to see if I have missed anything, but that is how I got mine to work.
