Silent D's Savage XS Flux

Post by cdziak » Sun Nov 13, 2011 5:27 pm

Did a simple and relatively cheap LED mod for my XS today:
Image

The bumper lights on the XS are plugs. This kit is from Ram (kit 170, $15). It's wired into my 3rd channel for the time being. The leds are a snug, perfect fit into the hole left by the plugs.

For a lot more pics & tips:
My XS thread

Will be doing wheels / tires and a couple more things.

@ VladX, no I have not. I don't typically run is wet conditions with my electric trucks. The occasional puddle jumping yes, but I tend to leave the snow running for my nitro and this winter my baja. I am currently using the stock WP servo as it's so low in the chassis. It's working fine for me, strong enough for 2.2.  SERIOUSLY need HPI to release the XS wheelie bar!

In the first week I've replaced the tx/rx and ESC. Electronics are set and I love it. The truck took some punishment yesterday on 3S and came back for more.

Was that on the maiden run or after running more packs through it?

after running more packs thro' it........i was running on a bmx track though....seen less than 10packs through it...
and after the last run....cooled down...and the esc does not have sound anymore....turned it on, and no sound...but the lights still have red/yellow when you reverse or forward....the steering works ok though...

should i send a support email to hpi asking for replacment?...

Call HPI tomorrow (Monday) and start the RMA process. I lost a steering link today, lol, but have RPM 4/40 rod ends on order. Now I just need the rods.

Here's the location of the switch:
Image

I looked at the ESC plate and thought, gee, those posts look like they are spaced perfectly for a switch mount. I ground the antenna tube mount off of the ESC plate, between the posts. They are pre-drilled for screws. If you look in your spare parts bag, there's a switch plate with On/Off:

Image

I think it's nice and clean, once I added the switch plate (Mamba Max Pro doesn't come with one) it finished the look, IMO.

are you mounting the switch at the stock antenna location?....did you have to cut the antenna holder?....

I switched to a spektrum Sr300 rx, so the antenna is much shorter. I drilled a hole in the top of the rx box. You can see the antenna in one of the pics above.

I haven't had any issues with the SR300.  I currently use 7 of them. I also have a SR3300T and no problems with that either. I believe the 3100 is a DSM2 rx, maybe that's the source of issues.  I run a DX3S and a DX3C.

yapz....i had an issue with the SR300 on the FluxHP....had to put a capacitor on it to get rid of the drop in volts....

But the SR3300T is better...no need to use cap on the FluxHP...and it monitors the batt volts as well....and other temps if you need...

As for the SR3100, am not sure how it would respond....i will try on both the xs flux and fluxHP and report back laterz....

The DX3S is dsm2 compatible...so i wouldnt imagine it to be an issue with the SR3100....maybe it's the same issue with volts drop, where a cap should solve the problem....   :)

I run a SR300 in both Flux HP and Flux 2350, no issues at all.

Now, as for the XS, it got some more shocks:
I used all stock shock parts to make 4 more. Used M3x58mm cap head screws. These are the screws that go through the entire chassis. I cut them down to approx. 45mm overall and they are a perfect length. I had some HPI 40wt silicone oil so that's what they got. Stock supposedly has 35wt. Building them out of stock parts was less expensive than 4 power stroke shocks (or way less than 8 power strokes). Power strokes would be the ultimate IMO, but at about $200 for 8 or maybe a bit less on fleabay, it's hard to justify an upgrade that's 2/3 the cost of the overall truck. Stock shocks can be had on ebay cheap, if you don't mind the waiting game.

With steering at full lock, the link just hits the spring:

And a new wheel / tire combo - HPI MT Mesh wheels and Yokohama Geolander tires (MT2)
Image
Image

Yes this is overkill, it looks bad@ss IMO, and hopefully we'll see how it performs off the ramp and maybe the ramp's big brother tomorrow.

More pics can be seen on my site.

nice ride cdz....i may have to try those 8-shocks setup as well....already have them, but just need to find time to install...

have a go on the ramps...and let us know how the 8 shocks perform...  :)
