ok, if i am reading the right, even if my gearing combo will fit, I still have to change the backplate to use the rotostart and use a spacer??

the hex is too thin on the mach 26 like on a picco 26.. else the hex wears out due to the shaft moving back and fourth..

Im sorry for trying to make this as simple as possible. I have a Mach .26 Pull start. I need to purchase a picco shim and the rotostart back plate from my Nitro .25 will fit?? I searched on here for picco roto start and found nothing. Im not sure what shim you are talking about. OFNA makes an adapter for the rotostart bearing - is that what you are talking about with the shim?? Thanks.

the thing ofna makes is a shim.. so may people do the picco and roto start i know they have posts on it.. ill assume you used the link i gave above for the search also.. i linked it cause people fail to use the right one.. which would give 0 results.. so try the link, then picco and roto start.. i do not use roto start, i actually hate it, i sold the one i had gotten with my used savage#2 even.. so i cannot say exactly what the shim requirement is.. like the 100s of posts on the subject.. do some reading..

you will need the xtm back plate and 1 way bearing also... the shaft is the same..

if you use the spring, it keeps the hex in place, it keeps the shaft from 'walking' around.

i wish that was true.. but for all those who ate 1 way bearings on picco 26 with same hex.. the shim prevents the eating of the 1 way bearing.. also.. you nay not have noticed.. the shaft has to be shimed back alittle, think of 21bb/s-25 1 way how it has a spacer built in facing the back plate, and how it is thinner also.. but like i think i said.. me no have roto start.. so have never tested the shim vs no shim effects..

on the subject of the backplated, the ofna picco 21 back plate is a direct bolt on for the 21bb and vice-versa, I believe the picco 21 is also the same as the .26. Most of you probably know that the picco one way made the same as the xtm, I dont have an xtm to compare the dimensions of the oneway though. The picco back plate is aluminum also.

Just a thought??

I am basing this idea on the fact that it could be done only if you own the right sort of tools.

To fit the HPI Roto Start unit onto the MACH backplate, could you not just drill 4 new holes a little closer inwards and then thread them. Or even not bother to thread them and use longer bolts with small nuts on the other side.

Then once you have drilled the holes and made sure the Roto Start unit lines up, you could proceed to grind away any excess of the backplate that is not needed, thus making it smaller.

Anyway, just a thought.

I have just ordered my Mach26 and it is on it's way to Rick at RBmods for some dremel work

Once I get it back I will give the above method a shot and see how I go.
